Sweet Memories at Hershey Pennsylvania

Search Amazon.com for Travel assistance

Kids and adults alike will find Hershey, Pennsylvania a mouthwatering wonderland. I have now quite a few decades on me but I still get excited with the thought of sweet yummy chocolates and exhilarating theme park rides. These are the biggest attractions in Hershey and they lure countless number of families every year.

I know you must be familiar with Hershey's chocolates. More likely than not, you have eaten too many of them not only as a child but as a sweets-loving adult as well. Hershey, Pennsylvania is the home of this beloved chocolate. So it's not surprising that the town has been transformed into a living gallery of everything chocolate-related.

For an insider's view of the chocolate-making process, the Chocolate World is the place to visit. Children will find the multi-media tour on how chocolates come to be very interesting. Of course, part of it is the free chocolate tasting. You can even get your very own Masters Degree in Chocolate Tasting after the treat!

Of course, who can say no to the Market Place Shops where chocolates of all shapes, sizes and color are begging to be bought and tasted. We've had a blast shopping for fun and quirky looking chocolate goodies.

Right next door to the Chocolate World is the Hershey Park. It is the perfect place to spend some of the chocolate-induced pent up energy. The park features all of your favorite rides plus more. The family favorite is the newly added water park where you can have all the excitement of the rides while keeping cool in the buoyant waters.

After the thrilling rides, I recommend a short drive to the Hershey Gardens. This is the perfect place to sit back and relax while gazing at all the excitement over at the Hershey Park. There are plenty of botanical exhibits in the Gardens that will keep the children occupied, but nothing beats the Butterfly House. Be prepared to get pleasantly attacked by hundreds of butterflies. Also be sure to prepare the camera because it is going to be a great photo opportunity for the whole family. For more furry fun, visit the 11-acre Zoo America where you can find more than 200 animals frolicking in their almost-natural habitat.

If you've had enough of chocolates (who can say that?), how about taking a bite of that huge, big dough pretzel? Then, off to the Julius Sturgis Pretzel Bakery where the first pretzel bakery in the US started  late in the 1700s.  Another alternative is the Cherry-Crest Adventure Farm where children (and adults too!) are challenged to find their way in a huge corn maze. Also, allow your kids to experience the hayrides and pumpkin tosses. If your kids are old enough, maybe they can play with the chickens after the Singing Chicken show.  Mine did and they can't stop talking about it.

If you still have time to spare, don't miss checking out the Strasburg Rail Road. Go on-board the steam train and take a trail tour of the Pennsylvania region. You can also pass by some of the Amish farms in the area to observe and experience their distinct way of life.

There really is no lack of exciting things to do in Hershey. Take your pick and be on your way to creating your own special memories in the sweetest place on earth.
